To convert English words to another language is one thing. To faithfully convey an English-speaking author's choice of words, reasoning, and intentions is quite something else. And to do so in language that feels natural, and therefore makes for a good read, is even more difficult.

Perfect command of the translator's native language - Dutch in my case - is, therefore, as important a prerequisite for a good translation job as a good apprehension of the source language. Especially in non-fiction, a fair amount of curiosity is also essential - the will to truly grasp the subject matter.

For this reason, I prefer transation projects that pertain to subjects I'm interested in, as detailed on the home page.
